Hijack the City is a spoken word sound installation based on the work of London artist and poet Robert Montgomery. Described as somewhere between Jenny Holzer and T. S. Eliot, Montgomery vandalises advertising spaces in major cities around the world, covering them with posters of his melancholic and politically charged poetry. A selection of his work was installed around Shoreditch, East London in 2011.
Hijack the City was installed in the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall on 3rd March 2011 as part of the Surrogate Cities Exploded! event. It was originally presented in a quadraphonic format (four speakers positioned to make four corners of a square). This page features a specially mixed stereo version.
