I am the Spring, You are the Earth

I am the Spring, You are the Earth was written for an exciting multi-instrumental project established by Laura Jurd called Stepping Back, Jumping In. It was performed at (among other venues) Kings Place, London; Sage Gateshead; Royal Welsh Conservatoire and features on the album of the same name.

“British-Iranian composer Soosan Lolavar plays the santoor (a hammered dulcimer that adds a dazzling, percussive sheen to much of the music) and also writes one of the stand-out tracks – a gorgeous nine-minute ambient drone called I Am the Spring, You Are the Earth.” – The Guardian

“Lolavar’s piece, I Am The Spring, You Are The Earth, is almost minimalist, with long, slowly changing notes from the ensemble which build in intensity until reaching a thundering crescendo, before subsiding leaving the subtle time tones of Lauvdal’s keyboard. The result is powerful and affecting.” – London Jazz News

“Simply stupendous… the 14 piece ensemble… paints a glorious, shifting collage of sound.” – 5* review from BBC Music Magazine
